It started with a pool my family and I didn’t want anymore.

I was staring at a leaking, algae-filled and liner damaged pool taking up space in my yard. It was costing me thousands annually to maintain, and had become nothing more than a liability and an eyesore. We barely used it even in the summer. Between constantly having to clean, measure chemicals, unpredictable weather and high costs of electricity to run the pump, our pool – which should have been a source of joy and fun – was beginning to be a massive pain point for me as a homeowner. It had to go.

The decision to remove it seemed simple. Finding someone to do it was anything but.

Contractor websites were outdated. Quotes were all over the place. Half the companies never called back. The ones that did couldn’t explain what the process involved, what permits were needed, or why their prices varied so wildly.

After going through the whole process myself — permits, contractors, demolition, backfill, the works — I realized why most people either keep their pools closed or unwillingly open it year after year. Homeowners needed a better way.
